Our Mission
世 界 の 学 生
( sekai no gakusei )
translates to "Student of the World"
To be a student of the world is the motto of Kaisei Learning. Inspired by the pragmatic philosophy of American Educator John Dewey, our mission is to ensure that learning takes place in a luculent, captivating, and applicable manner. We aren't studying to merely pass a class, but rather, we are learning to be informed scholars of all that exists in the world around us - deepening our understanding one lesson at a time.
Promoting students to embody this perspective of self-efficacy is my goal; watching them unfold academic achievements with eagerness and curiosity is my reward.

"Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. Education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living."
What is the practical application of all of this?
"So, what are the practical applications of this? How do we use this in the real world?" is what a peer curiously asked my professor during one of our final lectures in Linear Algebra, as we learned about The Eigenvalue Problem. It is this frequent inquiry that fuels the purpose of Kaisei Learning.
It is through the process of gaining knowledge that we refine our means of living. From an evolutionary standpoint, we can think of "learning as a student" as a directly applicable process of trial & error, such as learning to cook food or build shelter. To learn meant to live, and ameliorating the means of learning meant an ameliorated means of living one's life.
However, recently it seems that there exists a modern disconnect between learning and living. "Learning as a student" in the modern day is depicted by dreading lectures, cramming late night study sessions, & forgetting material the day after the exam.
We want to change that.
Our mission is to reconfigure the idea of learning back into the idea of living. The aim is for students to see how what they learn connects to and/or directly contributes to improving their life (or the lives around them) - and allow this comprehension to inspire them in their studies.
This is done through using day-to-day actions to break down a difficult concept, such as connecting Gauss-Jordan Elimination to playing a game of Sudoku or connecting the Direct Comparison Test for Series Convergence to college admissions, as well as through revealing the furthered applications of the concept, such as showing how Polar Coordinates are used in conducting CT Scans, or how Matrix Multiplication allows us to create smoother 2D & 3D graphics for our favorite video game characters.
Most importantly, with each lesson we strive to build confidence and foster a growth mindset, empowering students to become engaged critical thinkers in their future pursuits.
As our motto states, we are Students of the World ; that which we learn encompasses our minds, forms our thoughts, guides our worldview, and shapes who we are. It's time to study - not under the premise of merely studying, but as a means of building understanding, knowledge, & wisdom of the world around us.
